Howto "whitelist" certain apps in User Account Control?
Hello, is there a way to control for which applications the UAC promt is triggered? E.g. the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox always triggers the UAC promt which is quite annyoing since this application poses no threat to the system. Is there a way to "whitelist" a certain exe file? Please note, I do not want to completely disable UAC. Thanks!

You can not whitelist applications but you can however reduce the UAC prompts by adjusting your local security policy. To do so, follow these steps: Click the Start Orb. Type in the search, "sec" and point to "Local Security Policy" Open the following directory trees: Local Policies>Security Options. Scroll down to the area, "User Account Control" and adjust your settings. The setting you are most interested in will be called: User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode. Set it to "Elevate without prompting" If you are curious, check the Explain tab, which will describe every setting in detail. Admin-approval mode is basically what the system prompts for to install programs. The Secure desktop is the portion of your screen that becomes "grayed" out when approving. You can adjust how this shows up on your screen as well.

Thank you for the detailed answer. I'll take a look. :-) Although I must admit it is a bit disappointing that the only solution is to change the whole policy instead of controlling the UAC at a detailed level (but that's of course a windows issue and not your fault :-D).

Use the task scheduler. Follow my guide here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=135472 best regards André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Somehow it looks like a hack that misuses the task scheduler but whatever... it apparently works. Thanks!
